When DWG member Stan auctioned some of his terrain/figures at the club, some of the English Civil War figures were purchased by club member Gregg, who immediately wanted to show them being used on the table.
The battle was fought using Wargaming World Solo rules with the Scots fighting as the Virtual You, with dice and cards, with my Parliament forces holding them back.
With word of an invading Scots force on its way a scratch Parliament army was put together under Lord Bolton. His forces were strong, on paper, but my early turns saw my cannon run out of ammunition (on the roll of a “1” after firing).
Both sides were slow to commit to taking the bridge, but the game turned on dismounted Scots dragoons rushing the bridge on foot and forcing back my Parliament infantry with the support of accurate cannon fire.
On the right flank the cavalry routed each other fighting to a standstill and it was the sole Scottish infantry unit which eventually took the objective whilst the dragoons maintained the bridgehead.
Perhaps a Parliament counter attack may follow but that is for another day.
Gregg has also produced a YouTube video, as follows:
