I’ve been keeping busy with a number of projects and have attended a number of ADLG tournaments with varying degrees of success…..2nd at Schiltron (with Ottoman Empire), was followed by 2nd last at the BHGS Challenge (with Medieval German, which I will never use again).
I had planned to attend this years Sgian Dubh ADLG tournament in Scotland with Spring and Autumn Chinese – the tournament had a biblical theme, so I thought a mass of impetuous chariots would be decent in period.
However, with three weeks to go and one poor showing at the Northern League under its belt, and some iffy practice games I decided to switch to Neo Assyrian and Sargonid Empire……there was only one problem, I didn’t have an army, so yet again I was faced with a very short deadline to paint up what I needed.
The list I had decided upon was as follows:
Brilliant Commander
4 Units of Mixed Troops: Medium Swordsmen & Bowmen
1 Unit of Medium Swordsmen Elite
4 Units of Heavy Cavalry Bow Elite
1 Unit of Mediocre Camelry
Ordinary Commander (included)
4 Units of Heavy Chariots, Impact Elite
1 Unit of Light Foot Bow
Ordinary Commander (Bedouin Ally, Included)
4 Units of Medium Camelry with Bow
1 Unit of Mediocre Camelry
The plan would be reasonably simple – I had kind of based the list around how I like to structure my Ottoman Empire army…I would use one of the commands as a holding command (which one would depend on the opponent), whilst trying to exploit an open flank….I should never be deployed on more than half of the table, instead focusing on a concentration of forces. Superior movement should get me to where I want to be.
I managed to paint up the units in time (in two and a half weeks), so here they are:
Commander
Heavy Chariots
Light Foot
The Infantry
The Cavalry
The Camelry
The Tournament
I was quite surprised that my practice games went as well as they did, winning four games out of four…..so imagine my even greater surprise when I won all five of my games at Sgian Dubh as well, winning the tournament…!!!
I played and won against:
- another Assyrian and Sargonid Empire army
- a Spring and Autumn Chinese army
- a Celt army
- an Ancient Bedouin army (cameltastic)
- finishing with a narrow win against a Neo-Babylonian army
Changing my army at the last minute……one of my better decisions…!!!
The Trophies!!!
